STRAINERS (Y, T, Temporary/Conical Simplex. Duplex, Self cleaning Strainers) |
 |
Y STRAINERS
Y STRAINERS are typically used in applications where the amount of solids to be removed is small, and where frequent clean-out is not required. They are most often installed in gaseous services such as steam, air, nitrogen, natural gas, etc. The compact, cylindrical shape of the Y-strainer is very strong and can readily accommodate the high pressures that are common in this type of service. Y-strainers can be installed in either a horizontal or vertical position. However, in both cases, the screening element or "leg" must be on the "downside" of the strainer body so the entrapped solids can be properly collected and held for disposal. Our Y strainers are available in cast bronze, iron, steel or 316SS and molded from PVC, CPVC, polypropylene, PVDF and PTFE materials.

T STRAINERST STRAINERS are very similar to Y strainers, although ours are a fabricated product and offered is carbon steel and 316SS with special alloys upon request. T strainers are very compact, important in applications where space is restricted. Unlike most other strainers, T strainers can be used in both vertical or horizontal installations. Unlike Y strainers, you can access the strainer screen without draining the strainer housing. Our T strainers also feature a convoluted strainer screen and an unrestricted flow path that results in a very low pressure drop compared to other strainer types.
This makes the strainers ideal for applications such as condensate and boiler feed pump suction where the process water has low solids loading and the pressure drop is critical.

SIMPLEX BASKET STRAINERS
SIMPLEX BASKET STRAINERS are likely the most common industrial strainer. Unlike Y and T strainers, the oversized basket is designed for continuous removal of particles for batch applications or for applications which the flow can be interrupted for basket cleaning. The free straining area, also known as the open area ratio, is typically 6 times the cross-sectional pipe area. Our quick-opening yoke style chamber cover requires no tools to access the basket for cleaning.
We offer simplex basket strainers in cast iron, bronze, steel and 316SS and molded from PVC, CPVC, polypropylene, PVDF and PTFE. Custom fabricated simplex basket strainers are made from carbon steel, 316SS or whatever alloy as required.

DUPLEX STRAINERS
DUPLEX STRAINERS are used when the flow rate cannot be interrupted for basket cleaning. Once the differential pressure reaches 8-10 PSI and the strainer basket needs to be cleaned, the lever handle is turned to take the dirty basket out of service and to divert the flow through the chamber with the clean basket. The position of the handle indicates which chamber is in service. No special tools are needed to access the strainer basket for cleaning. Our duplex strainers are available in cast bronze, iron, steel and 316SS and molded from PVC, CPVC and Eastar materials. We can custom fabricate duplex strainers from carbon steel, 316SS or whatever alloy is required.

AUTOMATIC STRAINERS
AUTOMATIC STRAINERS also known as self-cleaning strainers, utilize the 5% or less of the filtered water for back washing the strainer element. This particular type of self-cleaning strainer is almost exclusively used for water systems and becomes cost effective (compared to duplex strainers) for pipeline sizes 8" and larger. The particle loading can be continuous, however usually limited to a concentration of <200 PPM.
We do offer modified simplex strainers designed to "flush" particles from the basket in addition to multi-chamber filtration systems for both water and non-water applications.
We offer cast version made of iron and 316SS as well as fabricated versions made from carbon steel, 316SS or whatever alloy is required. Because the automation options vary and we offer many different types of "self-cleaning strainers",

TEMPORARY / CONICAL STRAINERS
TEMPORARY / CONICAL STRAINERS are used as their name suggests, only temporarily, usually during the start-up and flushing of new pipeline systems. The flange of temporary strainers fits between ANSI pipeline flanges and can be provided in carbon steel, 304SS or 316SS materials of construction. We offer several variations, to the left is a "cone" style, also referred to as a "witch hat strainer". Other designs are basket style and plate style, the design is dictated by your application parameters.. 2" temporary basket strainer" through 10" are constructed of 24 gauge 316SS and 12" through 24" are made from 18 gauge 316SS. Other materials, perforations, mesh and ANSI ratings are priced upon request. For mesh lined basket style temporary strainers indicate whether the mesh lining is inside or outside the screen (flow should be pressing the mesh against the screen)

FLUSHING STRAINERS
FLUSHING STRAINERS This is a type of modified simplex strainer, having the drain port connected to the bottom of the strainer basket, enabling "flushing" of retained particles when the drain valve is opened. The effectiveness of the cleaning is dependent upon the differential pressure of the system compared to the (presumably) atmospheric pressure of the drain port. Other factors include the particle characteristics, if they tend to be hard and non-deformable, this strainer design provide a low-cost/tech approach for reducing labor related expenses.

MECHANICALLY CLEANED STRAINERS
MECHANICALLY CLEANED STRAINERS this type of strainer is used for non-water fluids or for applications where it is important to minimize product loss. Very often these are used for viscous fluids and other difficult to filter fluids such as paint, wax, and food/beverage applications. An internal disc wipes the surface of the element, pushing all of the retained particles to the purge chamber. When the drain valve is opened, the system pressure flushes the particles out the drain. The cleaning cycle is typically < 1 second and the volume of solids/fluid < 1 gallon. The internal stroke frequency and the purging frequency are set with programmable timers. |

TUBULAR BACKWASHING FILTER SYSTEMS
TUBULAR BACKWASHING FILTER SYSTEMS Strainer systems are generally used for particle retentions as fine as 100 mesh (150 microns), with some exceptions. Filter systems are designed to retain particles as small as 1 micron. Tubular backwashing filter systems temporarily reverse the flow through the filter element, backwashing and dislodging embedded particulate. When continuous flow is required, the filter system will consist of multiple chambers, ensuring that a minimum flow and a constant discharge pressure is maintained during the cleaning cycle.

Triple Duty Valve
"Triple Duty Valve primarily required on the discharge side of a centrifugal pump in a hydronic heating or cooling system. This valve functions as a shut-off valve, spring loaded silent
check valve, and balancing valve. Triple Duty Valves are constructed from rugged
cast iron castings that are machined to exacting specifications. These bodies have drilled flanges that are in accordance with ASME B16.1.
The Keckley Style TDV has an automatic and silent operation. The disc will open when the line pressure is approximately ¼ PSI. As the line pressure approaches zero, the spring will close the disc to prevent flow reversal and water hammer. The flow through the valve can be from bubble tight shut-off to full flow by the acme rising stem."
